Leo (2023), a Tamil-language Bollywood movie aired on Netflix, captured the audience’s interest with its gripping story, exciting action sequences, and outstanding performances. This film, which was directed by the talented Lokesh Kanagaraj, skillfully combines suspense, action, and emotional drama to keep audiences on the edge of their seats. As of personal feedback, I’ll say it is directly connected to the Tamil movie Vikram (2022) which was also written by the same director and ultimately makes it Lokesh Kanagaraj Universe (a made-up name). The most interesting part is the way the director combined both storylines is an excellent way of narrating a gangster lifestyle with emotions and suspense.
Let’s have a deeper look at the storyline of Leo (2023), and find out what really makes it worth watching.
Director Lokesh very cleverly wrote a whole storyline where you can never relate to the main character’s actual identity. The primary concept of the film is a man with a troubled history who tries to lead a simple life but keeps getting drawn back into the realm of violence. As the story progresses, the viewers are drawn by gripping details, emotional moments, and violent action scenes.
It narrates the story of Parthiban (Vijay), an ordinary man who owns a welcoming coffee shop with the name “Wild Beans” in a tiny village. His peaceful existence suddenly shifts as he becomes the target of a gang of deadly criminals who all of a sudden come into his coffee shop and violently try to kill him, but he knocks out all of them at once and for that penalty, he has to face the court but somehow released due to evidence of self-defense.
This whole incident creates a real mess and due to a single event, Parthiban has to face his past which is full of mysteries and violence but the clever part is nobody knows about this. And now comes the entry of our famous Bollywood Superstar Sanjay Dutt (Antony Das) who claims to be the father of Leo Das (Parthiban) and comes to Kashmir to take his son back home and run his business.
But our innocent Parthiban humbly says to Antony that the person of interest he’s looking for might be his doppelganger, he’s just a simple man living a simple life. But due to forced events when Antony picks up Parthiban’s son he brings on more action that leads him directly to his past and in the climax scenes he finally reveals that yes, he’s Leo, the man who is behind all that mess, which is really awkward but, of course, a great ending.
The emotional side | Family and sacrifice

In addition to having tons of thrilling action, Leo is also a really emotional movie. The story’s central theme is family and the extent people would go to keep them safe. Much of the story is driven by Parthiban’s love for his family, and we witness him making difficult decisions to ensure their safety.
Maybe Parthiban never had to reveal himself and he could keep himself from all this nonsense and violence in the movie if gangsters didn’t threaten his family. We could say that the ideal theme of the movie is family and love. His family was under attack multiple times. And interestingly, when his boy was picked up and dragged out of Kashmir that is when he revealed himself and showed his true identity.
The film has a number of heartwarming scenes, especially those between Parthiban and his wife. Their bond brings warmth to the narrative by demonstrating that love and family can offer comfort and support even in a dangerous environment.
If you love action-packed scenes, Leo has plenty of them, which is what makes it so great! The film is full of exciting scenes that will keep you fascinated, from car chases and shootouts to hand-to-hand combat. Because of the excellent choreography, the action sequences are convincing and compelling.
Moreover, the most amazing part I personally found is the fight scene between Vijay and Sanjay Dutt while our hero was on a final mission to rescue his son Sidharth (Mathew Thomas). All the major events where Parthiban was attacked by villains are well-choreographed and given the theme of a proper action thriller movie.
One of the most thrilling scenes in the movie happens when Parthiban finally decides to stop running and fights back. He is changing from a reserved man into a fearless fighter, and this is a tragic and dramatic moment. The action feels relevant because of the way the film skillfully combines these action sequences with the emotional impact of the hero’s story.
Hyenas are common in the northern part of India. Even in the opening scenes of Leo, we can see a hyena trying to attack the locals and nearly injuring many locals and that is the focal point of our hero’s entry. He rescued everyone from the beast and tranquilized the animal.
Later on, in the ending scenes when Parthiban’s wife and daughter are in real danger and they have no one close to protect them, at that point the same hyena savestheir life and kills the last member of the gangsters sent by Das’s family, which ultimately exposes another spoiler that the brave hero is actually providing shelter to that hyena.
This is a strong message from the movie that narrates even the wildest animals can be tamed if they get proper training and nourishment. Hyenas are no pets and people normally try to keep them away, and if they see one they try to get away as soon as they can, but this great direction proves that they can become a pet if trained by a proper master.

Leo (2023) is a movie that has something for everyone. With its intense action scenes, emotional family moments, and gripping storyline, it’s a movie that will keep you hooked from start to finish. The performances, especially Vijay’s portrayal of Parthiban, are outstanding, and the direction, cinematography, and music all come together to create an unforgettable experience.
Moreover, you may get to see its sequel in the future as we can see in the closing scenes of the movie that Parthiban receives a call about the remaining deals and drugs of the Das family and he gets a proposal for a face-to-face meeting to get rid of all the business. So! sit tight, as we may get to see the same kind of action with such an exciting storyline again.
