Season 2 Episode 2 (Trick or Treat, Freak)
After a very dried-up introduction in the second season’s first episode, Max was totally a different kid in the second one. At first, when boys try to add her to their team because the girl is a nerd, she literally ignores them. But then, she introduced herself as a friendly person, and the boys were really shocked after seeing that girl’s humorous side. But they never cared about weird behaviour at first as they also wanted to become friend of hers anyway.
But here’s a catch, she did it on purpose. She never wanted to be a part of any party because of her traumatic life back in California (which we get to see in more detail in seasons 3 and 4) and her stepbrother, Billy (Dacre Montgomery), but in the first episode when Billy tried rode the boys down in anger, she felt bad for them and made her apology by hanging out with them and accepting their invitation in the party. Season 2 Episode 2 (Trick or Treat, Freak)
All the new members that appeared in season 2 missed a lot of history related to mysterious happenings in the town of Hawkins. In fact, the biggest truth is the whole town of Hawkins is unaware of what really happened to the missing people, particularly to Will Byers (Noah Schnapp). But, Will was the only one among 6 missing people who came back from the Upside Down, and that’s why he was called “zombie boy”.
As of co-incidence, Max also became a friend of the zombie boy, but she also felt weird towards him after joining the party. She never asked him about anything at all. Season 2 Episode 9 (The Gate)
Who spoke mostly against Max? Yes, it was always Mike (Finn Wolfhard), till the end of Season 3, he was always against her. Well, he didn’t dislike her really, but, at first, he thought she ruined the party by joining it without any voting, and secondly, when she got too close to Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown), he thought that Max was turning her against him. The conclusion is, that Mike never wanted her to be a part of their team, on the other hand, Max told him that she could be their Zoomer.
She calls herself a zoomer because of her expertise in skateboarding.
After all mess up, when they finally get to understand each other, a point comes where she becomes a real help to the boys. As Eleven was about to close the gate in episode 9 of season 2, they helped her by distracting demo dogs towards them, and that’s where Max proves her value and says “told you, zoomer”. After getting a whole new identity, a father, family, and good friends, Eleven thought she was whole now, and all she wanted was to spend time with Mike. But Hopper (David Harbour) does not accept this personal, intimate relationship between Eleven and Mike, so he puts Mike in a situation where he has to lie to Eleven, and things get a bit tricky here.

When it comes to real fun, Maxine can change the game. As speaking of fun, this most wonderful feeling was not an option for our main superhero of the series “Eleven”. She thought all she needs is a simple lifestyle, a family, a home, and of course, Mike (because she loved him). But she feels something weird about Mike’s behavior, for the very first time she seeks help from Maxine, and she helps Eleven discover real fun in life.

Season 3 Episode 7 (The Bite)
Well, Eleven has her superpowers, whereas, Max has her own kind of powers, means she can skateboard, make fun, and give clever answers, and by the end of season 3, we discover that she’s a medic as well. When El gets badly wounded after the bite from flesh monster, she helps her to ease the pain and get a secure bandage.
The funny part is when she tries to explain, how should they clean the wound, everyone looks at her strangely, and then she clarifies herself that “I skateboard, so you can trust me”. She proved herself by silently saying that she had been injured a lot of times and she knew better than them all how to handle it.

Season 4 Episode 8 (Papa)
It really saddens the heart at first, when we realize that among all the people Vecna (Jamie Campbell Bower) has cursed, Max is also marked. The only difference between her and other cursed ones is, that she got the help of real nerds who can beat any monster or demon with their teamwork. But they never knew this one is going to be very different from other monsters they faced in previous seasons.
Another amazing fact is that Maxine is among those characters who visited Upside Down and have seen closely how horrible it could be.
When nerds discovered that Vecna usually attacks using emotional and psychological traumas, they could beat him by calming the brain. That could be done by listening to their favorite music or thinking about their best memories. So, the only shortcut Max used at first was her favorite song, “Running Up That Hill by Kate Bush.” That was a temporary solution, of course, but it worked pretty well.
Running Up That Hill is an original track by Kate Bush released in 1985, as we know, Stranger Things is portrayed back in 1980s, that’s why it was Max’s favorite song from the same decade.

It breaks the heart to see Max leaving us at the end like this, but in truth it was never her fate. Vecna accomplished his plan to open all the gates to Upside Down and left all the living beings in a dying wilderness. But as we speak of Max, her fate is still dependent on 5th season which is yet to release in 2025.
In the closing scenes, one of the most beautiful parts is about Lucas and Max, where we, as viewers get to know that Lucas was the only person in her life she held most dear. She does care about her mother, Billy, and all the other friends but Lucas was always close, and that’s why he was even at her bedside when she was hospitalized later on.
