He always had a talent to pick out the golden opportunites, this can be figured out when he offered his room to Tyrion Lannister not for his company, because he was wearing fine clothes and gold. He thought it to be a golden chance to serve a Lord of Westeros, but, it turned out badly as at the same time Tyrion was taken prisoner by Catelyn Stark (Michelle Fairlay) who was travelling secretly and having lunch at the same inn.
Unlike most characters, he doesn’t care much for glory or loyalty. He’s practical and direct, choosing alliances that benefit him, and he isn’t afraid to switch sides if it comes to better opportunities.
Early days as a sellsword
His journey in Game of Thrones began when he stood for trial by combat in Eyrie of Vale for Tyrion. After all, little lord Lannister was having a trial for crimes he didn’t even know about, so he was in trouble. Bronn stepped forward and said, “I’ll stand for dwarf“. In that fight, he proved his abilities by defeating Ser Vardis Egen (Brendan McCormack), a knight of Vale, using fast thinking and combat skills.

From that moment, Bronn becomes Tyrion’s trusted companion, but it’s clear that his loyalty comes at a price. He doesn’t follow Tyrion out of honor or duty but because the little Lord paid well and offered a steady path to power. Bronn’s success can be measured in terms of his promotion in second season when he was promoted as “Lord Commander of City Watch”. Very few people were able to get so strong in short span of time serving in Kingslanding.
Battle of Blackwater | Heroic moment for Bronn
This battle was a crucial turning point in the series, as King’s Landing faced a fierce attack by Stannis Baratheon’s (Stephen Dillane) fleet. Our clever sellsword played a vital role in defending the city. As the commander of the City Watch, he was responsible for leading the defense efforts, and he did so in his own ruthless style.
The sad thing is Tyrion and Bronn planned Kingslanding defense together, played their parts, but unfortunately, Tyrion got wounded, lost his power as hand of King, and lost every facility he had in his possession, while, the common sellsword lost only his position as a Commander of the City Watch, still he played his part serving master of coin.
Using “wildfire,” a dangerous green substance that burns everything in its path, Bronn sets Stannis’s fleet ablaze, saving King’s Landing from certain defeat. This battle earns him respect and recognition, and that’s why he’s known as “Bronn of the Blackwater.” It’s one of the few times we saw him truly acting as a hero, even if he’s doing it for the rewards that come afterward.
An unlikely bond with Jamie Lannister
As the series progresses, his dedication shifts from Tyrion to Jaime Lannister. Although the friendship isn’t as deep as his relationship with Tyrion, they still develop a unique bond. Jaime was a skilled knight but lacked street-smart survival skills, after all, he learned to fight in gold and glory and with a backup.
After he lost his right hand, he lost his self-esteem as well, and thought he could never fight again, then here comes Bronn, who lifted his spirit, trained him to fight with his left hand, and most of all used to mock him on every occasion. Jamie learned to rely on his clever companion for help and advice (especially for secret missions) while our man with skills sees him as a path to further power and glory.

What makes Bronn so unique in Game of Thrones is that he represents a side of the world that most noble characters ignore. The same thing happened by the end of Season 8, when he was again bought by Queen Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey) for killing both of her brothers (Tyrion and Jamie) who were fighting a battle between living and dead (white walkers).

One thing is certain, he would have never been able to succeed in his tricks and changing sides for favor and power, if Ned Stark had ruled the seven Kingdoms, because at that point there would be a different ending of the show.
Unlike many characters who face tragic ends, he gets a happy ending. He reaches his goal of wealth and power without losing his life in the process. While he may not have been the most noble or heroic figure, his journey shows that sometimes the “real” game of survival is more effective than playing by the rules of honor and loyalty.
